Over the last couple of years, I’ve been doing some hunting. Hunting for a good IP practice management and maintenance system. I’ve come across quite a lot of these and they’re mostly top of the range products and costly too.
In the case of those that are a little cheaper, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with them as I wanted something that was customized to the extent relevant to the Papua New Guinea practice. After all, our focus is on protecting IP in Papua New Guinea and if there ever was a situation where we would need to assist our client for overseas registrations, we have a huge network of associates who can help us.
That is why I personally had a hand in the design of dokit, our own in-house IP management and maintenance system. Thankfully, we had an amazing developer and IT experts who helped us significantly in bringing the system about.
It’s amazing going through a lot of the companies who have intellectual property but do not have a suitable management and maintenance system. Obviously, IP doesn’t seem to be on the top of their minds but once they become aware of a particular infringement they start scrambling to see what’s happening with their “most prized business asset”.
