The traditional practice for many IP practitioners in PNG is to act on a matter and once completed, archive the files.
Nothing wrong with this.
But what if you could do a little more so that the client gets more value.
What we’re talking about is an updated docketing and database system that not only stores the critical information of an intellectual property but also reminds the client when a particular deadline is coming.
This isn’t exactly a new system and there are softwares floating around but as far as I’m aware not many legal firms or IP agencies utilize such a system. If they do, it’s not used effectively. In short, the approach tends to be more reactionary and thus places a higher risk of clients losing their intangible business assets due to failure to renew at the required time.
At Vai IP, we’re implementing such a system called dokit which not only enables us to store critical information but also be proactive on upcoming deadlines by sending out alerts to the last known address. For this to work even more effectively, clients should let us know of any changes to contact details. If you don’t, we’ll still look around for you.
